The forest products company Stora Enso says that it will resume production at the Sunila pulp mill in Kotka on Finland’s south coast. According to Stora Enso, the market situation has improved so much that the mill, which has been closed since April, will re-open. The ultimate fate of the mill still remains in doubt, pending a final decision next spring.

Stora Enso shut down production at the mill in response to low demand. The price of pulp has recovered in recent times, and Stora Enso now says that the Sunila mill can be re-started by the end of the year.

Nevertheless, prospects for the forest industry remain grim, and the final fate of the Sunila plant will not be decided until later next year.
