Another Bronze for Finland in Nordic Ski World Cup
Finland's women won the bronze in Sunday's relay event at the Nordic Ski World Cup in Beitostölen, Norway.
Sweden took the victory with a breakout sprint by anchor Charlotte Kalla. Norway's anchor finished nearly 17 seconds behind, with Finland rounding out the podium exactly 22 seconds behind first place.
The men's team place fourth inthe relay behind Norway, Russia, and Germany.
Men Take Bronze on Saturday
Matti Heikkinen turned in the best performance for Finland by placing third in the men's 15-kilometre freestyle event at the opening of the Nordic Ski World Cup, currently under way in Norway.
Heikkinen was edged into third by winner Norwegian Ronny Andre Hafsaas and Frenchman Vincent Vittoz. Sami Jauhojärvi was the second-best performing Finn, finishing about 40 seconds behind the winner in 15th position.
In the women's events Saturday, Norwegian Marit Björgen took the 10 kilometre freestyle event by storm, beating the Swede Charlotte Kalla into second position by nearly 16 seconds. The best-placing Finn, Riitta-Liisa Roponen trailed the winner by nearly a minute to finish in 6th place. Aino-Kaisa Saarinen was ninth and Virpi Kuitunen 16th.
