The Finnish Cancer Foundation urges people to wear pink on Friday to show support for women battling breast cancer. Finland observes Pink Ribbon Day on Friday, October 23.
The four-week Pink ribbon campaign, which extends through the end of October, aims to raise money for Finnish breast cancer research.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. It affects one in ten Finnish women at some point in their lives. Some 4,200 women in Finland are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.
Today, improved treatments and early detection are boosting the survival rates for women diagnosed with breast cancer. Some 80 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer are alive five years after their initial diagnosis.
Scientists have yet to identify the exact causes of breast cancer.
