Interviewed on YLE Morning TV, Hyppönen added that so far no clear motive has been found for the Denial of Service (DoS) attacks that hit the web pages of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE beginning on Monday. No connection to recent DoS attacks on Estonian government sites has been found either, even though early on, it was suspected that this might be the case. Government sites ready to face attacks
Government Internet sites in Finland are prepared to deal with this type of attack, according to Kari Keskitalo who is the data security chief at the Ministry of Finance in Helsinki.
Also interviewed on YLE Morning TV, Keskitalo said that since the attacks on government websites in Estonia during a recent dispute between Estonia and Russia, Finnish government sites have made preparations to deal with similar incidents. However, he stressed that the state's internal networks are not in danger and he noted that the public web services have rarely been targeted.
"Apparently we are not an interesting enough target, but certainly political interests could lead to us being targeted. We are prepared for this," stated Keskitalo.
