The Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is aiming to become number one in mobile networks and grab an even bigger share of the handset market.

The joint company created by bringing Nokia end Siemens operations together, Nokia Siemens Networks, has targeted the leader's post in the field as its goal.

"It is the only right target, leadership in the market," Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told the Sunday edition of the newspaper Kaleva.

In the same interview, Kallasvuo told the paper that Nokia is aiming at raising its share of the mobile phone handset market from the present 36% to over 40%.

"Forty percent is no magic number for us. There is no reason to set a tight limit on our market share. It can be even more than forty percent," Kallasvuo added.

At the same time, the Nokia CEO said he is not concerned about the falling price of handsets, "What is crucial is that the price of a mobile phone covers costs."
