Mohamed is a more popular name among newborn boys in Finland than many traditional Finnish names like Timo, Seppo or Jari, according to the Population Registration Centre.

Last year 132 boys in Finland were registered with the moniker Mohamed, or some other version of the name such as Mohammed, Mohammad or Muhammad.

The name was more popular than several other traditional Finnish boys' names like Timo, Jari, Jukka, Jouni, Hannu, Seppo, Vesa and Ilkka.

Mohamed is probably the most popular first name for boys in the world, and is slowly becoming more common in Finland as well. Between the years 2000 and 2006, 724 boys in Finland were given the name Mohamed.

Juhani, however, is still the most common boys' name in Finland. A total of 1,607 boys were given that name last year. Meanwhile 2,302 girls were bestowed with the most common girls' name, Maria.
